A Message From Our District President
African Lessons For An American
The partnership that the Southern Illinois District shares with the
Lutheran Church in Southern Africa is a blessing to many. There is much to learn from our fellow
brothers and sisters in the Lutheran Church.
Our origins date back to Germany in the middle of the 19th
century. Partnerships work best when there
is mutual sharing, giving and receiving.
Trips to Africa contain suitcases full of books and items to be used in
the partnership. Trips home contain many
memories, pictures and tokens of our time spent together.
African Christians are joyful people.
The amount of one’s possessions does not determine the joy one has in
life. It may have the opposite
effect. The more we have, the greater
the worry to maintain, protect and manage.
Those who have less do not share those same burdens. For many Americans worship is a chore that
needs to be completed in sixty minutes or less.
Africans view Sunday as an event of celebration. No one watches the clock to try and get
everything in ahead of schedule. This
frees people to pray, praise and give thanks while receiving rich helpings of
God’s grace.
Youthful
vigor and new ways of doing things mark the baby boom generation in America.

Call Day Is May 1 At Concordia Seminary, St. Louis
Concordia
Seminary, St. Louis, cordially invites the public to share in the joy
of Call Day on Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Students who will serve as vicars
or deaconess interns (a one-year internship) next year will receive
their assignments during a 3:00 p.m. (CDT) worship service. Rev. Keith
E. Kohlmeier, president of the Kansas District, will serve as preacher.

Bob Streuter Memorial Golf Tournmant
Several changes have been made for the Bob
Streuter Memorial Golf Tournament. For
seven years we have held our Student Aid Golf Tournament at the Roland Barkau
Golf Course in Okawville. Due to changes
at the golf course, our golf committee has decided to change the location and
date of this tournament for 2012.
LWML Offers Scholarships
The
Southern Illinois District of the LWML is offering scholarships to students
from our district who are preparing for full-time service in the church. Application
forms for all scholarships are available on the website at www.sidlwml.org and by either email or
regular mail. Send email requests for
