A Message From Our District President

 An End and a Beginning

On Sunday, April 6, 2014 Christ Lutheran Church in Fairfield, IL. closed its doors for the last time. This follows sixty years of ministry dating back to 1946. After World War II the Southern Illinois District desired a congregational presence in every county within our boundaries.  East of I-57 this has been a difficult task.  The Lord blessed the lives of all who have been baptized and confirmed in these congregations and mission starts.  The faithful remnant at Fairfield determined it was too much to continue with so few in attendance.  The members were good stewards of their resources. The building sold quickly and we are dispersing the proceeds according to their desires. One beneficiary is the newest location of exploratory mission work within Southern Illinois.

The western part of Clinton County is heavily Roman Catholic with no close Lutheran congregations.  Lebanon lies to the west, Highland to the north, Carlyle to the west and New Memphis to the south. Read more!
